Double Denim is Back
Double denim, the trend of wearing denim on both your top and your bottom is back in style. Despite the horrors of the 80s when we last saw double denim as a fashion trend, fashionistas are bringing back the denim in whole new looks for 2009-10. However, because double denim has been a fashion faux pas for so many years, you will need to know how to pull off the feat of looking great in double denim this season.
Do Double Denim (But Not the Denim Suit) The key to wearing double denim this time around is to avoid the look of the denim suit. The good thing is some of the worst of the 80's such as the denim overalls are unlikely to come back this time around, so leave the old overalls under the bed this time round. You can however, have matching denim pieces, this rule strictly applies to wearing jeans and jacket of the same colour, we are still seeing some matching items such as a pair of shorts and a short sexy top, or jeans with a cap of the same colour. This goes without saying, but just to re-iterate, don't wear the jeans that match your jacket at the same time.
Do Double Denim as a Fashion Statement Double denim will only work as a fashion statement, so make sure you wear the most fashionable denim you can find. The Double Denim look is a fashion statement and you need to wear it like you are doing it on purpose. Don't look as if you just put on two pieces of denim because you couldn't find anything else to wear. Be creative with your choices of denim pieces so when they come together they make a real statement.
Do Double Denim with Accessories Break up the endless sea of blue denim with accessories. Wide belts or scarves in the stunning tribal patterns that are also in fashion at the moment can help break up the sea of blue denim and maintain your fashionable look. You may consider wearing a denim cap to match your jeans, or wear a hat to match your shirt. There are a whole range of colours in the denim range, so choosing two different colours will work best to break up the look. Women can accessorise with a brightly coloured handbag or one that matches their hair colour and shoes.
Double denim is back. It does not have to mean a double dose of fashion faux pas though. There is new fashion in denim every year, and this year is no different, so make sure you are up to date with your denim pieces if you want to make your double denim a fashion statement.
