Make Your Own Weedkiller
Here are some ways to help save you money by using household products to make your own weedkiller.
There are some fantastic weedkiller products on the market but if you are looking to save money and only have a small weed problem then it is possible to use everyday household products as a weedkiller and save a few pennies in the process.
One way of creating your own weedkiller is by using a small amount of Jeyes Fluid mixed with tap water. The amount of Jeyes you will need will only add up to a few pence worth and so mixed with tap water this is very inexpensive alternative to bought weedkiller. If possible, put the mixture into an empty spray container for easy application. This is particularly effective on minor weeds and unwanted growth such as on paths, patios, driveways and small growths around the edge of your house. Ensure that animals do not come into contact with the mixture as it is toxic and can be harmful to them.
Another cheap alternative to weedkiller is brown vinegar. If you heat this up and pour it onto the unwanted weeds they should clear within a few days, stubborn weeds may require a second application. This is because of the strong acidic qualities that brown vinegar contains making them a good weedkiller. If possible apply to as much of the root as possible for the best weedkiller effect. Be careful to only apply it to plant life that you want to kill though as just like non-selective weedkiller, it will kill all plant life it comes into contact with regardless of whether that is weeds or your prize flowerbeds.
You may have an old steam wallpaper remover lying around in your cupboard or loft and this can also be used as a weedkiller, this obviously won't be cheaper than buying a regular weedkiller product but if you already own one it can but used as weedkiller as well as for removing wallpaper. If you steam the weed-infected area for one or two minutes this should kill them and they should wither and vanish within a few days like with a normal weedkiller. They great thing about this method is that no chemicals whatsoever are involved, just steamed water.

If you have larger or particularly stubborn weeds then there may be no alternative but to use conventional weedkiller. This is most commonly available in a spray container and can be purchased from any good DIY or garden store.
