ESPN’s bias in baseball

Have you ever watched baseball tonight on a regular basis, I used to. After a few months of watching a majority of the top stories revolving around the Yankees or Red Sox quickly my interest was lost. Sportscenter is worse, but that’s a story for a different article. Every year during the playoffs no matter which broadcasters are on the air the majority of the talk is about New York and Boston. What irritates me the most is the fact that even if neither team is in the playoffs (something that hasn’t happened in a while) both teams are still mentioned extensively. What did the Yankees do wrong and what do they need to do to correct it, same goes for Boston.The bias does not stop there; it would still be appalling if it did. To the commentators and other ESPN employees neither the Yankees nor the Red Sox can do no wrong, they praise every move they make, every player they get is gold, and they never overpay. However if any team other team would sign the same player at the same cost that signing would be blasted as absurd horrible signing.To give a good example of this would be the 2006 signing of Alfonso Soriano signing with the Chicago Cubs. $136 million over 8 years, yes it is a lot of money, yes it is a long contract. The Cubs, according to ESPN overpaid for Soriano and the story was barely mentioned in the middle to end of the show or so I was told. With that being said, had either the Yankees or red sox made the same deal for Soriano, ESPN would be calling it genius signing. It’s a little sickening, and because of their obvious I have not watched ESPN baseball in over 2 years and I do not plan on it. Every once on a while I will read an article or two to see if anything has changed, so far I am disappointed every time.In contrast look at the Red Sox signing of Daisuke Matsuzaka if you include what was paid to the Seibu Lions, which you should considering it cost the Red Sox the money to sign him, they paid $103.1 million dollars over 6 years for a player who has never pitched in a major league game. Yet, ESPN praised the deal and the Red Sox for making it. The story was a top story which was talked about at great length at the beginning of the show, again I didn’t see it myself as I am still boycotting ESPN. That sounds like there is a bit of bias to me.It is so disheartening that a fan of any team other than the Yankees or Bo Sox, me being a cubs fan, cannot get a fair and impartial recap and/or review of our team. I live in Arizona and before the internet was common place I relied on ESPN for what little information I could get as I did not get WGN until recently. I will not even watch ESPN baseball when the cubs play, as Joe Morgan shows his intelligence, if any exists, bashing everything cubs especially the superior Cubs second baseman Ryne Sandberg. That is something I don’t get, maybe there is a story there, but its like Morgan hates Ryno. In fact I believe it was Morgan’s negative campaigning of Sandberg that caused him to fall short on election until the third time.I have wondered why ESPN is so bias? Why do the higher ups let this inequality continue? Do they get kick backs from those two teams? Are the owners of the network fans one or both of those teams, what is it? It has to be something This will continue until enough people complain. So if this bugs you they way it does me write now to ESPN. And tell them your issues with their blatant bias, and if you feel as strongly as I do tell them you are joining my boycott.
