Free website hosting will make your site look far less professional, which if it is for personal use that may be fine, but is simply unacceptable for business. The major downside is that you have no control over the domain. Your site will be a sub-domain of the main website offering the service which means that you could end up with a really obscure url.

Another negative about using these free hosting sites is that they could display ads on the site. This could ruin the entire look and layout of your website and you have no control over it.

Unfortunately, the only positive element of free website hosting is the fact that it costs you nothing.

Paying for hosting is by far the best option. By paying, you get control of your site, so no more annoying ads that you aren't even get paid for, plus you get to put your domain name on the site. You can pretty much put anything you want on the website.

The only negative to going this route is that you obviously have to pay.

Don't think that website hosting will cost you a fortune though, as there are hosting plans from over $30 a month, to less than $10 a month. If you want to pay month to month, a lot of companies offer this option and some may require a fee up front and then charge you as each month goes on.

Some website hosting companies offer the option to pay annually. It's better to pay a year at a time or multiple years at a time if you plan on having a website for a long time. In some cases, the more years you pay for the, the cheaper the rates go.

Finding the best hosting company comes with a lot of research and comparing. Don't just look at cost - look at what you get with the plan. If your buying for business, bandwidth is the main issue you may want to look for. Some offer much more storage space and bandwidth, and others offer features to their plans that you won't even need. It's all a matter of finding the best hosting plan that works for you.
