Excellent Surface Protection Products
There are many types of surface protection available today for the construction industry, from plastic film protectors for carpets to advanced flame retardant breathable carpet protectors. They all have their unique role to play in the world of protecting the work that's already been done.
One surface protection product that I wasn't aware of until recently was the flame retardant cushion guards, simple in its design this product is like bubble wrap contained between two layers of film. The layers of film really give this type of product a much greater strength than the traditional bubble wrap, therefore making it a great product for the construction industry.
Since finding out about this product I've used it on a couple of jobs, one was to protect a newly installed banister whilst the rest of the building work was carried out in a second floor flat, the other was protecting a couple of columns at the front entrance of a job where we were building a side extension. I have to say on both counts it worked perfectly and probably saved me a few hundred pounds.
Some of the key advantages of this type of product are that it's easily manipulated; you can wrap it around almost any awkward surface unlike other type of surface protection. It doesn't rip but can be cut easily with a Stanley knife and it is extremely durable, which means it has excellent scratch and scuff resistance. In fact on the job in the second floor flat, one of the lads knocked a door that was leant up against the frame onto the banister; lucky for him because of the wrap the banister was unmarked!
Another surface protection material that I swear by, is a spray on film that we use on newly installed windows and frames, the film is brilliant, you spray it on the window and frame when it's been fitted, carry on with the rest of the building work. Then when you're done and cleaned up, you simply peel off the film and the window and frame look like new and you don't even need to clean them as the plastic film leaves no residue.
I love finding new products that can really help with our work and save us when we make a mistake, if I find out about any new surface protection products, you can be sure I'll be writing another article to tell you about them.
