Do You Know Why Your Ears Continually Ring?

by Troy Powers

Should you find that your ears have a continual ringing, humming or hissing sound chances are you have what is known as tinnitus. This can be very bothersome and frustrating all depending how severe your tinnitus is. This article will give some insight to what some of the causes of tinnitus are known to be.

First, lets starts with some positive news and that is tinnitus is not a life threatening condition by itself. Tinnitus really is a sign that you have further health concerns that should be recognized. The ongoing ear ringing can be the result of many different issues and you should not ignore the fact your ears are ringing instead try to determine why your ears are ringing.

In most circumstances someone who has a case of ear ringing probably was recently exposed to excessive loud noise for a prolonged amount of time. That frequently happens after attending a rock concert, auto racing events or can even happening from listening to music through headphones at a high volume. If you believe your ears are ringing due to one of these issues than you can relax some because in most cases the ringing will soon end. But if you keep exposing your ears to such persistent loud noise over time the ringing may become permanent so it is advisable to use ear plugs to block the loud noise.

Unfortunately there are quite a few people who have tinnitus and were not exposed to excessive loud noise. The ear ringing may dissipate at times but does not go away. If you are one of these people then you need to determine what is causing your tinnitus so you can correct the situation as the frustration of tinnitus can be overbearing.

One thing we have recently learned is that tinnitus can be cause by medication. Certain medications cause tinnitus and even consistent aspirin usage has been linked to continuous ear ringing. If you are on any medication you need to see if ear ringing is listed as one of the possible side effects.

High blood or hypertension is associated with tinnitus. If you are experiencing the symptoms of tinnitus then you need to have your blood pressure checked to verify everything is okay. High blood pressure can cause tinnitus because the higher than normal pressure placed onto the blood vessel walls allow increased blood flow to the auditory apparatus. This is a great example how tinnitus can be a sign of greater problem.

Another cause of tinnitus can be stress and depression. Mental health is just as important as your physical health; stress is common with many medical conditions and should not be ignored. Everyone experiences some stress but abnormal high levels of stress can cause major health concerns many more serious than tinnitus.

Then there is old age tinnitus. Sad to say but as we get older many parts of our body just aren't as effective. Typically starting around 60 years of age the average persons hearing begins to decrease. For some people as their hearing ability weakens an ear ringing noise will slowly begin.

The issues listed above are only some of the common causes of tinnitus. You may be experiencing tinnitus due to a completely different reason. There are many things you can do to reduce the ear ringing noise. Following a proper diet that is based on natural foods that are preservative free and avoiding caffeine is known to help those with tinnitus. Exercising helps reduce the ear ringing as when we exercise our heart rate increases providing more oxygen to the brain, this in turn alleviates the ear ringing.

All in all understand tinnitus alone is not life threatening but could be a sign that some else far more serious is present. Do not ignore the ear ringing, try to determine why it exists. Many alternative tinnitus treatments are available that help with eliminating the ear ringing.
