Why Is There A Law Against Smoking Cannabis?

Surely it's all natural and pure man...

One of the main arguments supporting the legalisation of cannabis is the fact that it is a naturally occurring substance, provided to us by Mother Nature, which has never done anyone any harm or caused any deaths. Cannabis is not addictive and the effect it has on people is seriously non violent and generally makes people placid and relaxed. So why then does it cause so much anguish for the world's governments and why is it allowed to take up such a large portion of the police's time? <br/><br/> Mexico <br/><br/> In the US before the war in Mexico tumbled over the border, hemp was one of the most important crops for any US farmer. It was even illegal not to grow it at some stages. With the Mexicans suddenly flooding into the states and gobbling up many of the jobs as they would accept low wages, their tipple of choice cannabis and the smoking of it, was outlawed. Many states followed suite and soon marijuana prohibition was widespread. <br/><br/> Psychosis <br/><br/> There are medical reasons for the legal status of cannabis. For one, many argue that cannabis smoking is a route to harder drugs. The chances are that if you buy cannabis you may be in a position to then buy harder drugs if offered. Also, when you smoke enough very strong cannabis over an extended period of time, you may end up suffering from psychosis, depression or even more serious mental health disorders. Not to mention the effects of smoking on your lungsAmbitious Government Officials. <br/><br/> With drugs laws a new area of government enforcement, many individuals in the organisation saw drugs as a vehicle for their own career progression. By sensationalising the effects of marijuana these men sold cannabis laws as a way to protect citizens and to stop the nation from falling into the pits of hell. People fell for it and these men's jobs got more and more important as they increased sanctions on cannabis, which without this attention may well have stayed out of mainstream usage. <br/><br/> Even today, cannabis is used as an easy target for government officials wanting to appear to be acting tough on crime, when the average person on the street would rather they focused on something more dangerous like rape and murder. One of the few items to escape this is cannabis seeds and a number of legal highs. Many of these sites also provide the seams to smoke such as a vaporizer for healthier smoking. <br/><br/> Whatever your opinion, there are certainly many arguments for and against the legality of cannabis. <br/><br/> <br/><br/>
