3 Ways to Boost Your Confidence
Confidence, or should I say, lack of confidence can be a real problem. It's normal to feel some self-doubt now and then but a constant lack of confidence can be paralyzing. The good news is that confidence can be developed. It isn't something that we get from someone or something else. It's a gift we give to ourselves that comes from inside. Unfortunately, many people rely on external circumstances to give them permission to feel confident and that isn't long-lasting.
Here are a few ideas on how to boost your confidence:
Associate with confident people who are positive and are always trying to improve themselves. There is a saying that we are the sum of who we associate with. Take a look around and identify who you are spending the most time with. Are they glass half full or glass half empty type of people. The glass half empty type aren't confident and they don't want anyone else to be either. They are uncomfortable with people who feel good about themselves and want to move ahead in life. When you hang out with this crowd you tend to attract more of the same into your life, perpetuating the cycle of negativity. On the other hand, glass half full people support and encourage others and delight in watching people grow and improve. Pay attention to who you come in contact with today and cultivate new relationships if need be.
Confidence comes with practice. The more you do something the better you get at it. As you get better your confidence improves. Have you heard the expression fake it 'til you make it? That applies here. You don't have to be good to act good. A word of caution though, in order to be sincere you must be authentic and working on developing your skills. Some people are really good fakers and they can reel you in hook, line, and sinker but they have no substance. That is not our goal. The point is that don't have to wait until you feel confident. If you wait until then you will never get started because it is normal to have doubts from time to time.
There is nothing like the clarity you get from having a plan to boost your confidence. Confidence doesn't come from swinging in the wind, feeling indecisive, and lack of vision. It comes from knowing what you want out of all areas of life. When you create a vision for what you want you immediately begin to feel stronger even if you don't know how you are going to get there. A plan provides a solid foundation from which to work from and something to go back to in times of doubt. It's your why. Why you are doing the things you are doing that may feel uncomfortable. Every time you conquer a new skill you are building up another layer of confidence. At first you only have a thin layer but over time you build up a thick, strong layer that nothing can penetrate. Building confidence is like anything else. It takes time, practice, and determination. Remember you can achieve whatever you believe as long as you are willing to work for it!
