Thriving During The Holidays
The holidays are always a time of joy and fun with friends and family; however, we all tend to experience some amount of stress and demand during this time. When we are moving a thousand different directions, our bodies eventually alert us to slow down through several signals--feeling sleepy, feeling rough emotionally, low amounts of energy, and being less social. This is part of the holiday period and we need several ways to combat the lower periods of the holiday season.
Dr. Laura Ruby has provided information on her blog about this period of time and how people can deal with the stress and demand. With 5 simple tips and tricks, people can start feeling more relief and less stress. Take a look at these 5 space makers:
-First, remember to do some breathing exercises during the day. Breathing exercises sound funny to some, but they are a great way to rejuvenate the body and push oxygen to parts of the body that need them the most. Also, the repetition of breathing helps to soothe the body and calm it. So, take time to breath during your days and release from the stress.
-Second, carve out time in your calendar to just be. Not every moment must be filled with an event or activity. Spend time sitting and relaxing because this brings relief better than most things. If you need, say "no" to something and spend time relaxing. Take care of your body by cutting a few things from the calendar.
-Third, make sure to spend some time outside. This is the cold part of the year and we tend to nestle indoors, but take time to go outside and get some fresh air. It's amazing how a change of scenery and atmosphere can help our body feel refreshed, so get out there.
-Fourth, take a hot bath. Fill up the tub with warm water, light a candle, and hop in the tub for at least 15 minutes. Spend time soothing your body with the water and relax. Try not to think about everything you need to do, but spend the time thinking other thoughts.
-Fifth, make sure you are getting enough sleep every night. Yes, this is a packed time of the year, but reduced sleep will make you feel bad and then you won't feel up to doing anything. Take care of your body by sleeping enough every night.
