Grand Canyon Helicopters From Vegas Over the Christmas Holidays

by Lea Fallon

It is great fun to spend the Christmas Holidays in Vegas. Definitely consider doing a helicopter tour to the Grand Canyon. You don't want to take too long to book your seats though. Helicopter tours are very popular with visitors to Vegas so the seats go fast.

Too many people assume that Las Vegas is relatively quiet during the month of December. While true at one time, thanks to marketing efforts by the city of Vegas, business in the city is better than ever and many people visit during the holidays.

And who wouldn't, right? There is fantastic dining, great entertainment, plenty of shopping, and of course the Grand Canyon.

The Grand Canyon is about 120 miles away from Vegas so it is a quick trip. You can get there in 45 minutes by chopper. By comparison, it takes a plane 30 minutes and a bus 2.5 hours.

Affordable Flights

You will be surprised at your options in tours on Grand Canyon helicopters. The cheapest will always be the air tour, and by "air" I mean flights that don't land at the top or bottom of the National Park (more on this in minute).

These aerial tours are ideal when you don't have much time to spend or when you want to stick to a budget. You will see many interesting and beautiful landmarks on the way to the canyon, plus you get to fly over scenic Lake Mead and the massive Hoover Dam.

If you can do it though, you should opt for a landing tour. These add some fun adventures to your trip so you get to experience the canyon up close as well as from the air. The most popular landing tour is the one that goes to the bottom. The descent is an exciting flight you don't want to miss. Just don't pick an early morning flight because the sun won't be in the canyon yet and it will be cold.

Float Trip

You can even add on a float trip along the river. I know it sounds odd to do a boat ride in December but if you get down there any time after 10 a.m. it's absolutely gorgeous. The float trip along the Colorado River is very tame and beautiful, no worry about rough waters in this part of the river.

Lastly, there's the Skywalk. You can add tickets to the tour that includes the boat ride. There's also another flight that lands on the top specifically for those travelers who want just the glass bridge. Do this flight and you also get around 2 hours to explore the top, which is more than sufficient (just make sure you check out Guano Pt.).

I'm already seeing prices creep up in anticipation of the holidays. For that reason, you should book your seats as soon as you can. By all means, do everything you can not to book within 24 hours. You will pay more than you need to if you do. For some, that's a small concession to see one of the Seven Wonders of the World. If you have no choice, it is still worth the price to see the Grand Canyon, after all it is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. But for the majority of us, saving money matters.

Summary

I hope this article helped you as you consider booking your Las Vegas helicopter tour for Christmas Holiday 2013. One key thing to remember is that most helicopters don't fly on Christmas Day (12/25). If you need to get airborne, do an airplane tour, all of which will be taking off as regularly scheduled.
