Important Advice For Setting Up Your Online Business

by Richard McMunn

Setting up an internet business has never been easier, with minimal technical knowledge needed and wide range of niches to choose from. Since the early days there are many online businesses whom have grown into large corporations such as Amazon and EBay to name but a few. One of the finer features of an internet business is the low setting up costs, when compared to an average bricks and mortar business. All you really need to start is a PC, Internet connection and somewhere quiet to work.

Obviously every business starts with an idea. Your idea should be unique or a high demand product not readily available on the internet. If your product is already sold by hundreds of different sites you are unlikely to make much money with the idea. To find out if your idea is a potential goldmine, you will need to do some market research, using free tools such as Google's highly informative keyword tool.

With your product researched, the next step is to buy your slice of the World Wide Web by purchasing a domain name and hosting. When thinking of possible domain names, always try to include keywords within the name. For example our business sell's fish tanks, so we could ascertain that a common used search term, (keyword) used by potential customers wanting to buy fish tanks online could be 'Buy fish tanks.' With this in mind if available we could buy the domain name 'buyfishtanks.com'. Again we could use Google's keyword tool to help us research this task.

Once you have decided on an available domain name, it is time to purchase the domain name and some hosting space for your website. There are literally thousands of different companies on-line to help with this task and the costs are always quite low. Before signing up just do some background checks on the hosting company for reliability and quality of service etc.

With your web hosting in place, you will need to decide on a method for building your site. Again there are many choices from employing a website designer to building one yourself. If you decide to employ a designer be aware that this may cost a fair amount of money. Before hiring a designer you should check the quality of their previous work and contact former clients to ask for feedback.

If you decide to build a site yourself there are many different ways to do so. If you are experienced with HTML coding you will have the knowledge to design your own site. For the novices there are some excellent alternative options.

One of the best options to consider are web based companies such as Wix.com. All you have to do is create a free account, choose your template and edit it. Editing itself could not be easier as all you do is drag and drop items to the desired location on your web page. If you do decide to choose this route, please note you will be expected to buy the hosting through the company itself.

With your site up and running you will need to attract visitors, this is achieved in various ways such as paid advertising or by performing Search engine optimisation tasks or SEO for short. There are various ways to improve your website's SEO which include, On page optimisation, article marketing, social network marketing, blogging, forums and asking other website owners for backlinks.
