by Tracey England

A lot of people take for granted fire safety regulators such as fire doors; leaving them wedged open, or blocking access around them could cause serious implications in the actual event of a fire. However unlikely it may seem, you and your business need to be constantly prepared for a fire; they only take seconds to start, and minutes to spread and cause damage.

So when's the last time you had the quality of your fire doors checked? Most likely never, a lot of the time, businesses starts out in buildings where fire safety quality is expected, and people focus on smaller fire safety tools such as extinguishers, towels and fire buckets. But however important these tools can be, a fire door can be the obstacle between you and a fire if you get trapped in a building while it is alight.

Using state of the art technology in flame resistant panels and insulation; newly designed fire doors are superior to what they have been in the past. With smoke being one of the deadliest aspects of a fire, sealant protection systems that prevent smoke from spreading through rooms are now included in most fire door designs; this can put your mind at ease, knowing that there will be less chance of people suffering from these types of injuries.

Fitting new fire doors doesn't have to be fully time consuming, and take a lot effort to do; with self adjusting systems, and custom made doors, they will fit any frame where there once was a door. You can either get in the professionals, or if you're handy with DIY you can do it yourself; you do need to bear in mind though that once installed, fire doors need to go through checks to ensure that they are working to their full potential.

In the result of a fire, if fire doors have been implemented correctly, it is vitally important that employees are made aware of how to use them effectively; without proper fire safety training, the situation could be made worse, causing even more damage to the company. With this in mind, when installing new fire doors, make sure that your employees are aware of their importance, so that they will not take them for granted like so many people do.

Remember; new fire doors don't need to leave a burning hole in your wallet; with the right use and installation, they can provide a worthwhile investment for the future, and protect you and your employees in the result of a fire.
