Starting photography - wish me luck! ^^
We've started to practice taking photographs, and the rates of the lenses and supplies is just awful at my community stores. Because it's a speciality item, my neighboring art store has an high mark up on almost everything. It's so terrible that doing store-brought lenses I can't even complete a full practice set without spending like a thousand greenbacks. Happily, mail order comes to the rescue again.
I ended up looking around online and and I found a bunch of places that charge better fees than local - but so far my experience is that a lot of them will not offer very good service or are just dead links that nobody pays notice to anymore and my emails go to nowhere. It takes a number of doing to find a fine supplier, beforehand you start clicking away sending change to someone out there on the world-wide-web - test out out some critiques or information sites to see what people are actually using. If might manage to pay for going to one of the conventions I might probably get a bunch of inexpensive wares there - but travel and tickets are just too much for messing about with it these days.
I ended up going to meiphoto.com at canon lenses reviews and ordering the whole thing I wanted from there. I got myself a truly good chassis to substitute that older one that kept freezing. It was in fact economical - but I guess unless I institute doing this at events there's no need for one of the professional ones. The only awkward thing is that the lense is a big slow. There are faster ones, but that's way too expensive. I got a pretty good kit with lenses for under $500 and I'm eager to get started. I'll post some pictures when I improve a bit. ^^
