Private Investigator Marketing: Creating a YouTube Commercial

by Paul Beauchemin

Traditionally, private investigators are known for their ability to blend in and remain unseen. In the modern world, that won't get you any business at all. Today's private investigators need to be seen and heard if they want to attract the clientele that they seek. Today you will learn how creating a YouTube video is a good way to market your enterprise.

Let me See…

Millions of people watch hundreds of thousands of videos each day. They are accessed from computers, tablets, smartphones and laptops. Why do so many people want videos? They are easy for the brain to process.

Humans learn better with visuals. When you can watch, the brain clicks faster. Images are easier to digest than words on a page. They take less time as well. If you had the choice between reading a bit about a new business or watching a commercial that gives you the same information but in a different media, which would you prefer? If millions and millions of people are watching videos on YouTube, then your private investigator business needs to have something there for people to watch as well.

What to do First

The first step is planning before you ever step in front of the web cam or video camera. What will the commercial look like? What will it say to the audience? What do you hope to accomplish with it? You will need a script and a star. All videos are not the same. Your commercial can feature you by yourself or others of your staff talking about your business. It may be composed of animation and text screens without actual humans speaking. It all depends on what you think will get the biggest buzz and draw the most traffic.

Use keywords. Whether you are using actual people in your video or not, include keywords in titles, descriptions, link text and tags so people can find you when they search YouTube.

Create a clear video. Make sure that the images are clear and voices can be heard without mumbling or static. Use good video software to edit your completed work. Choose appropriate music as well as any overlay text that will appear in the finished commercial as well.

Proof your final commercial. Would you be moved by it? Make sure there is a call to action within it. Do you want them to call, provide an email address, visit your website or something else?

Upload your finished product to YouTube. Promote it with past, new and potential clients via your mailing list. Make it easy for them to view by providing a link back to it. Add links in social media posts for others to click and view. Post a link to the commercial video on your website.

Give potential clients something to look at - you advertising your private investigator business in a commercial on YouTube.
