Web Design Tips That Work Well With SEO

by Lesley Knowles

It is now a fact that a website is useless if potential clients can't find it in search engines. So, it is no longer enough to have a good website without proper search engine optimization. However, any SEO efforts will also become a waste of time if your website is a major turn-off. Hence, web design and optimisation go hand in hand to achieve online success.

Here are some ways to make your website dominate search engine page rankings and make visitors click on the buy button.

1. No splash pages - Some web builders use splash pages to impress users. However, search engines are not exactly ecstatic about the idea. This is because it makes your website difficult to decode and search engines mostly prefer optimisation within texts to index websites. So, even if your website is impressive and you used the right keywords, splash pages would just leave search engines clueless about the content of your homepage.

2. Don't use frames - Aside from the hideous look, frames make it difficult for search engines to index your website. This is because a framed website makes use of three different html documents to produce the design while a regular website only has one. This results to a poor indexation of your website if it gets indexed at all.

3. Don't use templates - Templates cannot use Meta tags, making it hard for search engines to index websites created by templates. Although they cost less than customized websites, they will not give you positive results in the long-run.

4. Create an efficient navigation system - A good navigation bar complete with tabs and drop down menus are highly favored not just by search engines but by web users as well. Thus, you need to make sure that your main menu is precise and includes sub-pages. A great navigation system combined with a perfectly optimized content will surely get you on top of search engine results.

5. Use header text - Header tags emphasize the order of importance of various content sections in a page. The H1 tag tells search engines that the text it contains is the most important, followed by the H2 and H3 tags. So, don't forget to use keywords in the right header tags. A good web building company should be able to creatively use header tags to compliment the overall design of the website.

6. Don't use pop-ups. You just need to ask yourself. If most browsers block pop-ups, why should you use pop-ups then? Not only do pop-ups infuriate search engines, they also make potential clients click away from your website. For them, if something looks "spammy", then it probably is.
