Summer is here and so is GSOC 2013

For all the Computer Science students out there, the summer is here and so is the Google Summer of Code (GSOC) 2013!

What the fuzz is GSOC? GSOC is every Computer Science student's ultimate fantasy to earn real-world experience by writing code for a open source project with Google.. This will be the 9th year for GSOC. During past 8 years more than 6,000 students have "graduated" from this program, working with almost 400 different open source projects. The candidates who are accepted for GSOC are will work on an actual software project over the summer. This will be a real test for coding enthusiasts as coding for GSOC is very difficult considering the amount of brilliant students participating in the program. Once accepted, each student is assigned a mentor to help address technical questions and concerns throughout the course of the project.

What's in it for you? For starter, participation in GSOC will put your resume ahead of thousands of other Computer Engineers. Simple as that. Not to forget that the kind of knowledge and experience you gain during the summer also strengthen your future employment opportunities as during the course of program, you'll have enough idea of ins and outs of IT industry. Best of all, GSOC is all about developing and spreading open source software for the use and benefit of all.

How to participate? Submit your proposals on the GSOC website starting now to Friday, May 3 at 12:00PM. The "ideas" pages of the website contains more than 177 open source projects in this year's program. All you need to do us look up and decide which projects you're interested in. Remember that GSOC has a limited number of spots for students, so writing a great project proposal is a must. You are advised to check out the Student Manual for advice.
