How To Find A Profitable Niche
If you're looking for ways to make money online you've simply got to narrow your focus of attention. Yes, there's plenty of money to go around but that doesn't mean that it's going to fall into your lap.
There's almost certainly too much competition in the vast majority of the top niches today and you will probably waste a lot of time and effort in trying to chase down a slice of that pie. Therefore, it's far better to find a niche market and to make a good job of staking your claim.
If you want to know how to find niches, the first question to ask yourself is an internal one. What do you get excited about? Are there particular subjects that you are knowledgeable about, that you have an interest in or can create value around?
Remember that you are going to be devoting a lot of time and effort here and if you choose a subject that is simply not of any great interest, then the chances are that you're not going to follow through and be as enthusiastic as you should have been.
The first step when it comes to finding niches is to do research - and a lot of it. First of all, choose a primary keyword that closely matches the individual niche areas that you are considering, based on the aforementioned interest level.
You can use a rudimentary keyword research tool such as the one provided free of charge by Google. Enter your primary keyword in there and make a note of the secondary keywords that the tool provides for you. Immediately you will be able to see how many searches are conducted, on average, on a monthly basis within your market place online.
Place some of these keywords into a search engine. Use quotation marks around the keyword and you will be able to see how many individual results are returned. This gives you a notional idea of how many web pages already exist in relation to that specific niche.
Compare the number of average monthly searches for information related to the niche in the first step to the number of web pages that already exist. This will give you a really good idea of the supply versus demand ratio.
You can also use the search engine to search for existing forums and groups related to the niche. When you find these, visit each one and spend some time to see how much activity there is. How many members does each forum cater to? Are there many active threads?
Delve into these threads to see if you can discover the "pain points" associated with the niche. This will give you an idea of how you could create products or services that cater for demand accordingly.
When you are working out how to find a niche market, take a close look at the websites that appear to be the primary competitors in this space right now. There are certain "keyword spying" tools that you can subscribe to in order to tell you approximately how much these sites paid on pay per click advertising, for example.
This can give you an idea of the viability of the niche market as it is unlikely that these sites are spending good money on advertising for nothing, after all.
At the end of the day, the key to finding a successful niche is to do you homework!
