For Any Occasion Creating Your Own Inexpensive Costumes - Not Only For Halloween
Creating a homemade costume is very popular today; therefore, searching for new, innovative ideas to make homemade costumes is popular as well. Halloween parties, costume parties and school plays all involve a variety of costumes and as most people know, purchasing costumes can be very expensive. Therefore, more people are starting to make their own handmade costumes in order to alleviate the cost.
There are many tips for inexpensive handmade costumes, but some of the best involve using resources that are readily available. For instance, sheets, shower curtains and trash bags are all readily available materials for making handmade costumes. Sheets are probably the most common household costume material for homemade costumes. Whether the sheets are solid color or print, a variety of inexpensive handmade costumes can be made from using old sheets. Additionally, handmade costumes such as ghosts, togas, and Indian dresses can be made from an assortment of sheets and shower curtains.
As most people know, there are a variety of ways to save money while making homemade costumes for your family and friends. Utilize a trash bag for your next homemade costume in addition to sheets and shower curtains If your child wants to be a grape or another type of fruit, take a large trash bag and cut two holes in the bottom (big enough for the legs to go through) and then pull it up to the shoulders (fill it with balloons) and secure the top with strong tape. Be sure there is enough room at the top for the arms in the costume. This costume is excellent with black tights or leotards making the grape costume a homemade work of art.
Inexpensive handmade costumes can also be found in most closets! For the most part, handmade costumes can be made by using old using uniforms and sweat suits. These items can be turned into costumes by adding a variety of accessories that give the costume the look that is needed for any occasion, Halloween or not. Basketball, football, baseball, hockey and cheerleading uniforms are great basic starting points for a homemade costume. On the other hand, sweat suits are perfect for children of all ages. The sweat suit becomes the base of the costume and accessories (balloons, buttons, paper leaves, paper stars, etc…) are added to change the costume.
Cat and bunny costumes are typically made from a base such as a sweat suit. If the child or adult is going to be a rabbit (then a white sweat suit is used) and if a cat costume is in order (then a black or gray sweat suit). Creating the complete costume for a bunny or cat takes no more than make up for the face and paper ears. A tail can also be added to the back by taking a small filled balloon and attaching it to the back. Using these tips in making a costume for a friend or family member for any costume party is a thoughtful gesture and will save everyone money in the end.
