Lauren LeMay Talks About Filmmaking

"I didn't know it could have happened to be honest with you", sais Lauren Lemay of her recent aim to direct short projects. "I always thought and dreamed to do it, but it never occurred to me that I should just do it, I always felt I needed to wait for permission and get some sophisticated degree in order for me to take charge of this aim".

Lauren Lemay worked as an extra, audience member and background actor in films shot in Los Angeles, and when moving back to Chicago in early October four years ago, she made it her aim to continue to work in the industry. She landed supporting roles in theatre plays such as "Truck Stop" at The Playhouse Theatre Players, and "The House of Bernarda Alba" at Underground theatre. And her return to tinsel-town two years ago reinforced the fact that creating art is what she loves to do best.

"I used to be blonde, posed for cheesecake photos on the beach and didn't know what a headshot was, I was terrified at the thought of being an actor, because I didn't know what I was supposed to do" Lemay sais "but then when I get in front of the camera, boom, I feel empowered and everything becomes smooth. So over the years, as I learned about the casting process, and had my headshot and resume done, and found out that it's ok to be me, I don't need to bleach my hair, or act a certain way to feel secure about myself, so I started to work a lot.

Lauren always wanted to be an actress. "When I was a little girl in Romania, I couldn't wait for theatre practice". She said. "It was mandatory back then, under communism, and many days I would get so tired of it, and wished I didn't have to do it, but then when communism fell, so did the theatre, that made me sad". Said Lemay. " Later on, when I finally ended up in America, it didn't take long for me to realize that this was a great opportunity for me to do what I enjoyed most and could learn to do it. I spoke no English, school and work is all I knew back then, but as soon as I graduated, and all my friends went off to college, I found myself alone, working for minimum wage, so I packed my bags and went to the sunny California."

Lauren Lemay is a member of The Screen Actors Guild and in addition she sais she wishes to join both AFTRA and The Actors Equity. She sais that she misses theatre work but she enjoys the movies. "At the movies you don't have to perform the whole screenplay hundreds of times and film is more personal, everyday is different."
