The Land of Hyboria has Finally Been Released
Age of Conan is the latest MMORPG offering from Funcom, the creator of Anarchy Online.
Earlier this year, Funcom had the pleasure of announcing their pre-launch population of close to half a million – one of the largest in the history of gaming. The developer had mixed success with its initial MMORPG Anarchy Online, with a good turnout upon launch but an inability to monopolize with future expansions. Shadowlands, the game’s second expansion, received critical acclaim at all levels and rejuvenated the game to completely new heights, but could not overcome the success of World of Warcraft.
The creator has constantly stated the necessity to be consistent with the integral principles of Conan and the world of Hyboria. Many of the team assigned to the Age of Conan project were told to become Howard fanatics prior to even beginning work on the game.
AoC clashes with other mainstream MMOs. Whilst Funcom’s AO was ahead of the field in creating the first post-apocolyptic MMO to fulfil the fantasies of many players, Conan promises to innovate in the realms of gameplay and character development.
Slaying the enemy in Conan is the main attraction of the game with a new combat system that lets gamers directly control the bloodshed. AoC presents an entirely new level of skill and attentiveness to gameplay,with each weapon presenting a different set of striking options.
AoC could be one of the first contemporary MMORPG titles to go multi-platform, with implementation predicted for at least one mainstream video game platform.It may not be long until gamers on both PC and games console can do battle in the same online realm.
