Why Most Users Want Simple and Free WordPress Themes
SKT THEMES
Well WordPress CMS is catching up and slowly becoming the Worlds' most used CMS. However there are still people who don't know whether to use WordPress or not and they don't understand the whole ecosystem of how a WordPress website and a free WordPress themes works. Most of them are first time users who are trying out their luck because they just thought and were told by a friend about the system and how it can be used for free and can be used to create websites.
WordPress CMS for the most part is made with this thing in mind and hence from installation to selecting a theme and from writing anything in pages as well as posts it has been kept really simple so that even layman can understand who has never before tried to use the system.
Now since we talked about why WordPress CMS has kept it simple we are going to list the reasons as to why for similar reasons people try their hand more on simple free WordPress themes.
Why Simple?
First Time Users: Most users who use WordPress are first time users being brought into this idea by either their friends or by checking websites which they like and which are using WordPress. So even though they want to do a lot they are first time users. And as first time users you always would want to start with something very simple and easy going which will help you understand things and doesn't overburden your head.
Try before you buy: Many theme developers offer their WordPress themes for free which are simple and easy to understand and also set the client expectations right because since these themes are free often people can use them without any risk or losing any money and once they like it or understand how everything works they can finally purchase the paid or Pro version of the theme.
Simple to set up slider: Slider is always simple to set up in case of simple free WordPress themes because these themes are very simple and are available for free. Unlike paid themes which use advanced sliders these themes use the most simple ones where you can just upload an image and add a title as well as description. Simple sites with simple banners where people can just display a few slides which explain what they work on and what is the site about is what is needed by most people and this is where simple WordPress themes play the part.
Simple to edit just page and post: Unlike their paid counterparts free WordPress themes aren't over relying or dependent on custom shortcodes or advanced tiny mce visual page builders and hence these themes use the default posts and page formats. As WordPress advertises it is as simple as pasting content from Word document into pages as well as posts and it carries over the formatting if its set to visual editor. Adding a paragraph and setting up headings and colors for the text is super simple which is what most users need the most rather than heavy tiny mce editor with several options which they might never use.
Just upload image and it appears: Uploading and setting up of images in free WordPress themes that are simple happen using mostly featured images. So you need to set up images for your blog post and all you have to do is set up a featured image. In case you want to set up header image all you need to do is go to Appearance>header and set up a header image. In case someone wants to set up a background image similar to header they can go to Appearance>background and set their background image of choice. So its just simple click and upload and set up without any knowledge of coding required.
Lack of html knowledge: Most users lack html knowledge and are trying WordPress because someone told them it is a do it yourself kind of CMS and you can have your website built on your own. Hence most users don't have the skills as well as the knowledge to have fancy content loaded on their site. So all they are going to do is use a plugin which allows for content division and use it along with the theme. Thus the role of a theme becomes limited and hence stressing more on the simplicity of the free theme they are going to use.
Fancy content: Bullet points, blockquotes, heading, paragraphs and alignment of images are the ones which most users need to highlight their content and these are readily available from within WordPress default tinymce editor and doesn't require any page builder or advanced visual composer to be installed. Free WordPress themes don't tweak this area as well as keep it simple to default and hence they are most desired for the same reason by most users.
Simple title: Typing a simple bold headline and title for each page is what everyone deserves the most. They don't want a cluttered html friendly title whereby one can add advanced titles. They need something plain and simple.
Just 1 click color change: Most paid themes have oodles of options whereby one can change every aspect of the theme and the color of the site. However most users get confused using them and what they instead demand is a 1 click by which the whole color of the theme changes to green or blue etc. Hence this kind of simple color change option is mostly available in free WordPress themes.
Simple footer: One needs a simple footer whereby they can change copyright info and add a few contact details and sharing icons. This if is given within Customizer or options of the theme is better or if the footer is widgetized then they can just drag and drop a widget and type in the content but definitely the first part is more desirable as people also don't know initially how to use a widget.
