Q: Hi Dr. Brignoni, can you tell me what a breast lift surgery is because I just heard of breast implants.

A: A breast lift surgery, also known as mastopexy, is performed to restore the shape and the volume and nipple and areola position to the breast.

Breasts can lose their shape and volume after childbirth or from excess weight loss, aging, or the patient was just born that way. Most sagging breasts will require breast lift surgery. In very few cases adding an implant alone will correct the sagging breasts.

These incisions in the breast will allow the reshaping of the breast skin over the breast tissue. Sometimes an implant will be required if the patient desires more volume.

The surgery usually takes two to three hours to perform under twilight sleep with moderate sedation monitored by a licensed anesthetist in the privacy of the Brignoni Cosmetogynecology Surgery Center. Recovery is fast. The patient will be ready to go home in 30 minutes to an hour. Moderate post-operative pain is managed with oral and intravenous medication. Patients may return to work usually within three to five days with some restrictions.

Upper body exercises should be restricted for at least six weeks. Thank you, have a good day.
