Tips You Need To Know Before Remodelling Baths

by Babak Tavakoli

Are you thinking about remodelling your bath? Then read these tips before you do.

Choosing Tiles

When choosing your tiles, you have the option of selecting tiles that are easy to clean and non-slippery. Easy-to-clean varieties include porcelain and glazed tiles. With such varieties, most dirt can be cleaned in one movement.

You want to avoid limestone unless you want to make scrubbing your part-time hobby. Limestone tends to absorb liquid drips and spills. Over time, it begins to stain making it harder and harder to clean. Tiles that are textured, such as matte finishes, offer good grip and prevent accidental slips and falls.

Choose the Right Caulk Formula

If you enjoy remodelling your bath every now and then, you may want to consider using an acrylic- or hybrid-based caulk formula that will be easy to remove without the need for harsh chemicals. This will make replacing the tiles easier.

Another useful tip is that the caulk you choose should contain mildewcide, which will protect the tile for up to five years or more.

Get the Right Height

You may want to consider your height before you remodel your bathroom. Although there are no fixed rules on what height should be used, you want to ensure that it is a height that you can reach comfortably. If need be, mark the areas with painter's tape.

Check the Plumbing

If you are swapping in your old bath for a new one, you may want to consider the plumbing. For instance, freestanding baths may require different plumbing from built-in ones. If you buy a new tub without checking to see if the plumbing matches then you may have to redo your entire plumbing.

Recessed Niches

Instead of the boring counter organizers, why not try for a recessed niche instead? This is a handy feature that ensures you still have all of your toiletries tucked away and within arm's reach without having a bulky shelf protruding from your wall. If you have children, you can even add another recessed niche that is at their level so they can reach for their own toiletries without any trouble.

The Right Countertop

If you can afford it, choose a countertop that is made from natural stone. It is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it is also scratch and stain resistant. It may cost you quite a bit of money; however, it is durable and will serve you for several years. Ensure the natural stone you choose has been properly sealed.

Is quirky your middle name? Are you a lover of anything unusual? If so, you would love resin-based countertops which can be shaped into unusual shapes and designs. Furthermore, this type of material needs no sealing and comes in a variety of colours.

Are you in a rush to have your bath remodelled as soon as possible? Are you also on a budget? Laminate is the best option to choose as it is not only cheap, but also stain and scratch resistant. It also comes in a variety of textures and finishes.
