Understanding the aspect ratio of the LED TV

Have you noticed that the images in your TV looks like they are fixed in a pillar box or a square black box. This is due to the improper adjustment of the image ratio on the screen ratio. This ratio is called aspect ratio. Technically, it is the width of the image in terms of its height. Most commonly there are two types of aspect ratios 4:3 which is found in SD TVs and 16:9 which is more common in HD TVs. This pixel arrangement is known as resolution Well, this does not means bigger the screen size, bigger the aspect ratio. It is the size of pixel arrangement in the screen.

Let us now look further for its better understanding

4:3 Ratio

Usually the SD TV have the pixel arrangement in 4:3 ratio. It means 4 pixels units across and 3 pixels units down.

16:9 Ratio

The 1920×1080 resolution or 16:9 ratio is found in new technology HDTvs. . On the same pattern of 4:3 it means 16 pixel units across and 9 pixel units down. Now If we have to see how the difference will look like then the picture will be a good example to explain. Due to difference in box sizes the image on the 4:3 will look stretched and will leave the boxes blank. You can notice the vertical boxes 1-3 looks like they are stretched. Usually this goes unnoticed but happens when the image and Tv screen resolution doesn’t match.

How to fix the black box right?

Nowadays, TV do have an option to switch the resolution mode to fit the image to the screen size. if you don’t have such option you can either stretch or zoom the image to fit as per your liking. Mostly for non thrilling shows people prefer to let the image as it is on the screen without tweeting the resolution option.
