Visiting San Antonio and South Padre Island

Consider the Alamo

San Antonio may not be one of the most popular places to tour in Texas, but it does get its fair share of visitors and has plenty to offer those that do visit . The setting in south Texas makes the weather wonderful for day and night time activities. Nightlife is all around for the evening reveler . And aside from all that, the city makes room for the family activities as well.

It may seem weird to go on vacation to go see a movie , but that is one of San Antonio's largest attractions. This city has some of the biggest and most modern movie theaters and film venues in the country, and is sure to delight everyone. There are tons of movie selections for all age groups, and the facilities are absolutely wonderful .

Shopping is also very regular in San Antonio. There are a variety of specialty shops and artisan dens around the city as well as San Marcos. If shopping isn't your favorite flavor , or if you've spent enough money for the day, take a wander down River Walk and enjoy the view. And you can't go to San Antonio without visiting the Alamo. Whether you're a history buff or not, the little mission has an awe that will inspire everyone who stops by. There are hundreds of stories for these walls to tell, and most can be learned by stopping and listening. Shopping is the next best activity in San Antonio. You can visit the shops that could be found in the local area and also those around San Marcos. If that's not enough, you can also take a walk and enjoy the view in the River Walk.

The Alamo, together with the other beautiful destinations for tourists in the city is always a must-see. Besides the scenery, the interesting trip back to the memory lane of history is definitely a learning experience. The Alamo is probably not only the most visited destination in San Antonio, it is a place that also has a lot of stories to tell.

On top of all of that, there are two amusement parks and water parks nearby . For the arts, San Antonio can't be beat, with its variety of musicians, artists, and museums. The cafés and live music that dot the city add a level of flair that just makes the experience that much more exciting.

An Island of Delight

South Padre Island on the Gulf of Mexico in southeast Texas is a popular vacation spot for every group from college students on spring break to families looking for some fun in the sun. Regardless of which group you fall into, or if you're somewhere in between, the island has plenty to offer. Rent a cabin or bungalow along the beach, and make it the centerpoint of your visit on South Padre.

For the family, the many miles of beach become home. With the family splashing in the waves and building sandcastles, parents can relax in the sun or under some shade and read a magazine and relax. For those times when the family is tired of playing in the sand, the island offers a wonderful sea turtle experience called Sea Turtle, Inc., a hands-on activity for the entire family to learn more about the endangered species. Laguna Madre is a wonderful boardwalk-style nature hike for viewing nature. And for the peak of thrills , there's a South Padre version of the Texas-famous Schlitterbahn Water Park on the island as well.

If you're on spring break, or getting a break from the children , finding a large multi-bedroom property is the way to go. Most have large central areas for visiting and game-playing, with separate bedrooms off to the sides. Head down to the beach for some sun, surf, and sand, wave-running and parasailing. Later on, jump on a Destination Cruise and do some sightseeing and partying , or go for a horseback ride through the island's interior. Oh, and don't forget the Schlitterbahn again; it's not just for children.
