When a close family member or friend is expecting a baby then it is an exciting time for everyone. One worry or concern however is what to buy as a gift for the baby. There are so many newborn gifts to choose from that it can sometimes be difficult to choose.

Firstly, you will be limited to what you buy if you do not know if your purchase is for a boy or a girl. However, many parents dislike the tradition of blue or pink so it is best to stay clear of this type of present if it has not specifically been asked for. Neutral gifts are most like the best and one that will be functional even more so too.

As much as you may like to go to your local baby boutique and pick out a stunning little outfit, this will be the same idea that many people have. A baby will not play with toys until they are older, and as cute as a teddy may look sat in their crib, baby will not even notice her. As for products such as colognes there is always the possibility that the little one will have over sensitive skin meaning that the gift will go to waste. So, here you need to think practical and think of a gift that is more for the parents rather than the new arrival.

Practical gifts that any new parent will appreciate are baby monitors, sterilizing kits or even a changing table or baby bath. These may not seem the ideal purchase for you, but they will be appreciated and most definitely used. However, make sure you always keep the ticket of purchase for in case two people have had the same great idea.

If however you fancy giving something cute or cuddly for the little one, then a great compromise is to buy something practical and a little something cute. Perhaps a little pair of booties or even a hat for those winter months could do the trick. There are so many possibilities that for sure you will be spoiled for choice.

When you are shopping for a present for a newborn it is so easy to get carried away. Boutiques and even high street chain stores have some amazing things on offer for the new arrival. Just try not to get carried away, think practical and think what it is you would want if it was you who was having the baby.
