Introduction to Pentek DGD-5005 series water filter cartridges
The Pentek 5005 series cartridges do not impart any taste or use any chemicals. It is simply a dual gradient filter that removes sediment and chemicals starting with the outer layer removing particulates less than the size of a human hair down to particulates that are five times smaller than a grain of milled flour. These filters are ideal for standard whole house filtration systems and are perfect for removing fine sediment from untreated water. Filter life greatly depends on your own water usage and sediment contamination of the water supply you are filtering.
The Pentek DGD-5005 series water filter cartridges are made of spun polypropylene giving these filters a true gradient density from the outer pre-filter to the inner post filter. They have two gradient filter layers that start with a pre-filter of 50 microns forming the outer layer of the 100% polypropylene filter and descending to a 05 micron post filter that creates the innermost layer. The dual gradient density (DGD) allows the filter to remove larger particles and sediment as it filters down to smaller particulates. This greatly reduces the load to the post filter allowing it to operate at a higher velocity while enhancing the cartridge performance as it gradually reduces extra-fine sand, silt, scale, and rust particles
The Pentek DGD-5005 is available in two common dimensions: 10” x 4.5” and 20” x 4.5.” These water filter cartridges effective filter depth is increased a total 233% over average spun-polypropylene filters. The Pentek DGD-5005 with the dimension 10”x 4.5”, allow for a flow rate of 10 gallons per minute. The Pentek DGD-5005-20 with the dimension 20”x 4.5”, allow for a flow rate of 20 gallons per minute. Both filters have an initial pressure drop of less than 1 pound per square inch.
Pentek DGD-5005 filter cartridges and their dimensions are common to popular whole house filtration systems. These two cartridge dimensions are appropriate for use with corresponding cartridge dimensions. The polypropylene material the Pentek DGD-5005 series is constructed of is bacteria and chemical resistant: this makes them ideal for all purposes including all municipal, rural, residential or commercial uses. The dual gradient design increases flow rate by lessening the load on the post 5 micron filter.
The Pentek DGD-5005 series water filter cartridges are spun using a similar technique to hand spun cotton candy and has greater capacity than string wound or standard spun cartridges. This design allows three times the dirt holding capacity of comparatively sized cartridges. They also outperform other types of water filtration cartridges due to the bacteria and chemical resistant nature of the polypropylene making it ideal for well, rain water, or municipally supplied water sources.
