Hope In An Assurance Of The Messiah, Jesus Christ

The last thing I expected my father to ring about that winter morning was my grandfather's passing . His doctor had given him a clean bill of health days earlier; nothing in his condition would have caused any of his loved ones distress. The evening after Christmas, he hugged my grandma goodnight. Before closing his eyes, Grandpa made it a point to recognize his sweet wife for agreeing to his invitation sixty years earlier to marry him. In the morning he was gone . Heartbroken as we were to lose this man we esteemed, his family couldn't help but think that such a peaceful death was fitting for our devoted husband, father, and grandpa.

For the first time in my life, death had snatched someone very precious to me. I thought of his presence at every major event in my life, from my birth to my baptism, my graduations, and my marriage . I lamented not being able to say good-bye . The day my father called me to break the news , I swept and vacuumed the floors in tears. My one consolation was my firm testimony of my Savior, Jesus Christ. I did not doubt, on account of that assurance, that one day, my grandpa and I would hug each other again. Through Jesus Christ, my Savior, he will be my grandpa in eternity just as he was on earth.

Grandpa's death wasn't the end of his life, and his birth wasn't the beginning: before he inhabited his physical, earthly body, he and all of earth's other inhabitants existed as spirit children of God in heaven. Heavenly Father showed us His plan to create an earth and invite His children to dwell there in physical bodies, removed for a time from His presence. Once on earth, we would not recollect our premortal life with God, for our obedience to God's commandments and our faithfulness in trial would need to be triggered by faith, not by the sure knowledge inherent in remembrance. Our making errors was unavoidable . Accordingly, we would no longer be eligible of dwelling in our Father's domain. And sooner or later, our corporal bodies would be hurt , get sick, and eventually, die. If we were to overpower the sin and death from which our mortal lives offered no avoidance , we would need a perfect offering to be ransomed in our behalf. Though to do so would cause Him to suffer beyond imagination, Jesus Christ, in supreme love for His Father and for us, offered Himself to complete that atonement.

In the meridian of time, as the little babe of the virgin Mary, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to mortality . He came to this planet , the Only Begotten of the Father in the flesh. In every trial of His will, He bore out true to His Father's commandments. Finally, as God had appointed in the courts on high, Christ's blood dripped like rain for our misdeeds; His spirit fled His body as He died for each of us. Three days later he accomplished what none had done before: he took his body up again , and left empty the sepulcher.

How inspired I have become by His atonement and resurrection! I bear my own testimony that His atonement can save me. I am certain that He suffered and died for me, for my grandpa, and for every other human being of His creation. I know that by the veracity of His resurrection, I will one day rise from my grave, too. So will my grandpa and all additional people . I will lock eyes with my grandpa and embrace him again, and I will see Jesus Christ and worship Him as my Savior and Redeemer, my eternal Lord and King.
