Brazil: Supermarket Sale Continues To Increase

In Nov. 2006, sales of Brazilian supermarket rose 2.23 percent annually in actual terms as domestic retailers boosted improved product and promotion offerings, as recorded by the Abras (Brazilian Supermarkets Association).

The sales figures of November 2006 were .92% more compared to October 2006. Abras further added that the November 2006 figures combine to the two subsequent months of development seen in September and October 2006, reviving hopes to end December 2006 with larger revenues at the supermarkets.

But, sales of supermarket till Nov. 2006 are 1.79% down since 2005, since sales carry on to be affected by decreasing food prices, particularly in product & perishable food commodities. Retail sales, particularly supermarket sales, have enlarged as customers spending were boosted by greater real incomes & better prospects of the economy of Brazil.
