Backup solutions are something every computer owner should give some thought to. Various factors must be thought through that relate to the security of your data, whether you use an online service or an external device to save your information. We'll be looking at some of the backup choices available to you in our report and, hopefully, they will give you some peace of mind concerning the safety of your computer data.

One of the simplest solutions for backing up your data is to use inexpensive CD-RW or DVD-RW disks. The disk that you purchased for about $1.00 can be used in the DVD drive of your computer, where your files can be copied and put away for safekeeping. The amount of storage capacity that you need gives disks a big disadvantage if you are comparing them to an external hard drive. So they are appropriate if you only have a small amount of data to store. You will need a solution that has plenty of storage space, if you are storing videos, music or photos. Until you find the right storage, they can be one of the options you use. Time Machine is an excellent backup program that's included on Macintosh computers. If you're going to be using an online service for this, it doesn't matter what kind of computer you're using, of course. Time Machine on a Mac, however, is very easy to use with an external hard drive. It's simply a matter of plugging in your external device and Time Machine will backup whatever data you choose. If you don't want to backup your entire hard drive, you can exclude certain files and include the ones you want to back up. It may take longer to do your initial back up with Time Machine, but any future backups will be faster.

Windows has its own online backup service called SkyDrive. This is a free service that allows you to store up to 25 GB of data, and individual files of up to 100 MB. For a storage service that is free and which you can access from any computer, this is a lot of storage capacity to have. One aspect of SkyDrive that's a possible drawback is that you are encouraged to use it like a social network. Any files you have uploaded to SkyDrive can be shared with your friends on Windows Live Profile, because they have been integrated together. Even though sharing your files is not a necessity for being on Live Profile, it is a possibility if you started sharing files that you might share the wrong one. Of course, in the final analysis, the first and most important step is your resolve to set up a system for backing up your data. You then have a variety of options to choose from. You must choose a backup solution that is suitable to the type of information you want to keep secure. Perhaps one of the systems mentioned above will be just the perfect fit for you. Nowadays, it's a "no brainer" to find a simple backup solution so there is no reason for anyone to lose any of their data.
