The Clever Way To Free Up Space In Your Bedrooms

by Richard Johnson

With the penchant for shopping in our must-have wish-list society, it's little surprise that many of us complain about the lack of space for storage in our homes. However much we give away to the charity shop or chuck away at the local council tip, there always seems to be too much clutter. Lofts are all well and good for little-used items, whilst garages, if we have one, can be useful for all the bigger items. But that still leaves a lot of often-bulky stuff to be accommodated within the actual house.

Perhaps the most cumbersome items are duvets, pillows and bedding - all the paraphernalia you only need occasionally. Like when relations come to stay and the spare bedroom has to come into play. The other main offenders are probably children's toys. Every Christmas and birthday even more appears and has to be found a home for.

But don't worry; salvation is at hand, as far as storage in the bedroom is concerned. Most of us are familiar with the divan bed principle - a bed that utilises the space underneath to accommodate drawers. But there's an obvious problem here. Many bedrooms have precious little space to even walk around in, let alone enough room for a pair of drawers to slide for several feet across the floor. Clever furniture designers have now come to our help in the form of the ottoman storage bed.

However tight you are for space, the ottoman storage bed really does make maximum use of the capacity available, because all of the area under the bed can be used. The whole of the bed, mattress and all, conveniently lifts upwards to provide a vast storage compartment below. The lifting action is easy, being controlled by a gas-lift mechanism that even the very young or elderly can operate. The bed can open either lengthways or widthways, and there's a special non-slip surface on the top of the base section which means that the mattress and bedding don't fly off the minute you lift it up.

You don't lose anything to style with an ottoman storage bed either. They come in all the fashionable finishes from faux leather to the luxury of real leather, and suede or fabric upholstery. They're economical too, so why not consider one for every bedroom in the house? Now, where on earth did we stow away all those bulky boxes of Christmas decorations last year?
