Addressing Alcohol, Drug And Employees Increase Business Achievement

by Joey Young

Alcohol and drug abuse shape a lot of people from different walks of life. Among the people affected are those who are employees from different businesses. If you are an employer, you would always want to make certain that the individual you hire is fit to do the job.

It is a possibility that employers terminate employees who have attitude problems since it is quite difficult to employ someone who has these problems. With people like this, terminating an employee and finding a new one is a better decision. However, before doing so an employer should find about the reasons behind the employee's behavior. If the justification for these actions are associated to alcohol abuse then perhaps it would be best to have your employees sent to a drug and alcohol treatment facility. This is the reasonable decision, employees that have substance abuse problems do not only have problems at work. This affects their entire life as well, so it is the duty of the state to help these individuals cope. As an employer, you must help them in taking the very first step by leading them to rehab facilities.

The main reason why it is good to send affected employees to drug treatment centers is also to increase productivity during and after treatment. Since the employee has been treated, he will not become a liability with regards to productivity. They become more aware of the company's rules and chain of command. They will not only become much healthier physically but psychologically as well. If the struggling employee is a supervisor, after the therapy the other employees that will notice the changes and will also improve their overall job productivity.

Company commitment is among the leading elements that convince employees to seek treatment. Since these employees received the treatment they are less likely to become liabilities to the company or ruin the company's reputation. They become more faithful to the company instead.

Another advantage of of helping these employees seek rehabilitation is to avoid re-training and hiring costs. The cost to seek out employees in the middle to high management positions is costly. The positions that are temporarily unfilled could become a burden to the other employees. Funding these costs can be more expensive than the cost it takes in sending the employee to a drug and alcohol facility. The costs that the company may pay when losing and attempting to replace an employee are the separations costs, vacancy costs, replacement costs, and training costs. The time to recover of employees can take a reasonable duration of time. In residential recovery they are required to join the rehab center for four weeks. They can work again in six to eight weeks.

It is apparent with the above reasons why it is good to take the option of keeping the existing employees into consideration until they are rehabilitated. It clearly shows that the solution is very useful to both the employee and employer.
