Tarui Disease: Causes, Symptoms And Treatment
We live in an era where practically every tenth person seems to have some ailment or the other. This disease manifests itself in an individual when there is a deficiency of the phosphofructokinase enzyme. There are various forms of Tarui disease, which starts more or less in childhood but can also develop during the highly- strung 30s.
The Symptomatic Cause
The most obvious symptoms are muscular pain and weakness coupled with cramping, especially during high- intensity physical activity which is also considered to be an intolerance of any exercise. Patients can also experience a mild case of jaundice which occurs because of the breakdown of the red blood cells. The name of the disease was coined by a well known physician called Seiichiro Tarui and it is one of the twelve glycogenosis diseases. These are considered to be rare diseases and even as we speak, there are scientists working on preventing the spread to the farthest corners of the planet.
Treatment Pattern
Dealing with any illness correctly is essential. Tarui disease is part of a group of metabolic muscle disorders that hinder the processing of various foods like carbohydrates, which improve the production of energy so imperative for the human body to function. As a disease it is not really progressive but the weakness due to exercise intolerance can occur well into the illness. Researchers working on metabolic disorders ensure that they provide solutions through various therapies like gene therapy, enzyme replacement therapy etc. One of the best ways forward from the perspective of the patient is to consult a doctor well versed in the domain. This should be accompanied by a view to change the food and lifestyle habits of the individual. It has been known that many people benefit from a high protein diet with limited fat, high carbohydrates etc.
Change in Thought and Action
When a patient is ill with a deficiency due to the lack of even moderate exercise, she/he may need to hire a physical therapist with a view to gaining maximum use of the muscles. One would not want to let them become lax, but the objective is also never to start a program unless the doctor is on board with the idea, based on the patient's ability to take on any activity. One must try and avoid any or all triggers like extreme cold, stress, fasting, skipping meals, exercising during menstruation etc. To get on with a healthy lifestyle one must ensure that she/he makes it a point to learn more about the illness. The main part is to avoid overeating, stop any injury from taking root and follow up with the doctor regularly. Finding a cure to an illness is something that every patient wants, but there are various methods that can enable her/him to lead a decent lifestyle. One of these is to find a support group of likeminded patients to understand the cause and effect and deal with it. The next step is to talk it over with a professional, perhaps a certified counselor. Most of all, one has to think positive. It can get frustrating at times, but the point is to accept the situation and move on towards a happy and fulfilling life.
