No Cost Traffic
There are a number of different ways to drive traffic to your site at no cost. One of the easiest and most reliable is posting to forums that are related to your site or product topic.
Of course, you can’t just start posting announcements and advertisements for your new product. The forum moderators will delete your ads almost as fast as you post them.
When you join a forum spend some time reading through the posts and getting a feel for the tone and subject matter. This is an important part of generating traffic with forums so don’t skip it. You have to fit in to the forum culture when you start posting in order to be accepted and trusted by the other forum members.
Be sure to take a moment to think about your signature line. Include your site links and a brief headline for your product. This line will be included under every forum post you make. It’s where your traffic will come from so take the time to make sure it’s good.
Once you have a feel for the forum and are familiar with all of the different categories look for a category designated for introducing new members and make a post. Just a simple paragraph letting people know who you are and why you’re interested in the forum.
Next look for a product advertising category and post a five or six line ad for your product. Many forums will include this type of category and it usually draws pretty good traffic. It’s also a great place to get product ideas.
Now start looking for a thread in the main category that sounds interesting to you and start reading. When you find a point where you can contribute something useful make a post. I can’t stress enough how important it is to post relevant and useful content.
If you just post a one liner like “I agree”, the readers will see you for a spammer and you will actually end up hurting your traffic. The secret to successful forum posting is to make posts that add value to the readers of the forum.
If you do it right the other forum readers will come to see you as a subject matter expert. They will look to your site for more information on your niche topic. This kind of reputation and industry authority can’t be bought.
Pick two or three forums that fit well with your site topic and frequent them. Look for any opportunity to add a post that contributes value. Be direct, honest and helpful and you will create the kind of goodwill and authority that translates into sales.
