Remember to have your passport and travel documents to hand, and check the guidelines about luggage restrictions before you leave. You will have a maximum weight to stick to, otherwise you may be charged extra. There may also be some prohibited items, such as liquids and sharp objects.

There are only two terminals at Gatwick: north and south. Make sure you know which one your flying from, as you'll need to go there to check in. Find your zone by looking at the screens inside, and there you'll need to join the right queue to check in. Your luggage will be labelled and taken here, and you then go through the security checks. Don't panic if the alarm goes off -- it could just be your belt buckle! After that, you're home free; just choose a cafe, shop or restaurant to pass the time in until you're called to board your flight.
