The Many Uses Of Used Cardboard Boxes

It seems that sometimes, people end up with a collection of used cardboard boxes that are just too good to get rid of. So, if this is the case, what can be done with them? Anyone who has a little bit of creativity and ingenuity can find many uses, instead of tossing them into the garbage. Before you throw them out, first of all, remember that they can be recycled.

Recycling will help save space in the ever filling landfills and will give new life to an old box. But recycling them may not always be an option. Many people save to reuse them.

They are great to use for shipping gifts and items through the mail. A nice sturdy box will insure that your gift arrive undamaged and safely. The only thing they ask at the post office is that you mark out any bar-codes on the box, as they interfere with their scanning systems sometimes. You can ensure there is no interference by wrapping the box up in brown paper before sending it.

So those are some obvious things that can be done, but how about something more creative? Depending on the size of the box, there are many things, other than storage, that can be done with them. Larger ones used for appliances can be transformed from a plain old boring box into a wonderful land of enchantment. With a few well placed openings for doors and windows, it can be turned into a castle for your child.

Let them decorate it with markers and crayons both inside and out for a wonderful play house that will have their imaginations bursting at the seams. They can create a forest, the solar system, or whatever else their hearts desire. Day after day they will be swept away into a place of imagination and fun.

If you sew or craft, a small box can be cut apart and used to transfer sewing patterns or other crafting patterns. As patterns usually come on tissue paper, they often get damaged, ripped or destroyed fairly easily. With a little spray adhesive, place the tissue on the box pieces, let it dry then cut them out. You will have patterns that last much longer than if they were just on tissue.

If you can get your hands on an unused pizza box, a couple cuts on the side panel of the lid and a fold across the lid will create a kids sized easel for painting and drawing. All you need is a support piece well placed in the back of the box to hold the lid up at an angle. You can cut holes in the unfolded part of the lid to place paint jars, keeping them from spilling. What a wonderful and inexpensive way help your budding artist create a masterpiece.

Used cardboard boxes are great for parents and kids alike. With a little imagination, there are hundreds of things that they can be used for, whether it is play time, craft projects or shipping purposes. Now you can justify your collection and use them for many purposes throughout the year.
