5 Reasons Why You Don't Need A New Car

But they're so shiny!

by Sam Qam

Do you find people often asking you why you don't get a new car? All too often people find themselves with a slightly older car that they have been driving happily for a couple of years only to find that friends and family are beginning to think that you should upgrade. Even though there is nothing wrong with it.

While this is largely down to the pressure of advertising, the allure of being seen in a new car and how it can make you look more affluent or respectable than even a slightly older vehicle, there are many reasons why you really don't need a new car.

Expensive

For one, buying a new car is really quite expensive. No matter how long you can take a car on credit, how big a discount they give you or how much of the road tax and insurance they pay for, it is still normally the second most expensive thing we buy throughout our entire lives. Keep your head and keep your cash.

Too Many Cars On the Road

Unfortunately for our environment, there are far too many cars on our roads pumping out noxious gases into the air than our planet can handle. Plus our roads are already over flowing with vehicles trundling up and down, causing tailbacks all the way to the horizon; by getting a new car when your car if working perfectly is just adding yet another lump of metal into the mix.

Ego

Getting a car when you don't need one is often just an ego boost for the driver. We feel more confident and better about ourselves when we have new things like new clothes, a new haircut and of course a new car. Be bigger than your ego and be happy with the car you have.

Does the Job

As long as your car is working properly and doesn't look like a rolling junk yard it should do the job you want it to. Unless you are a car salesman or work for a car manufacturer your car should be a useful tool that doesn't take over your life or finances. Sure, buy some performance car parts if you want to boost your power but you don't always need a whole new car.

Bad for the Environment

Ultimately, every new car we buy is hurting the environment, through the manufacture of the vehicle through to the pollution coming out of the exhaust. Don't add to it unnecessarily.
