A Day That Changed My Life

Mornings - the most beautiful time of day. My typical day starts with jogging in the light rays of the rising golden sun with the slightest hint of breeze, followed by a hot cup of coffee. Then it is off to work.

This particular morning also started routine. I picked up my favourite uniform from the set of dental uniforms and I reached my Dental clinic. My receptionist was ready with the day's appointments. I started off with the first patient and everything was routine till the evening. As I was about to close for the day my friend's dad came to meet me. I had rented the clinic from him. I thought he had come for his dental check-up and led him to my consulting room. He looked very disturbed and anxious. He sat and talked about the economy and his business and eventually broke the news that his son (my friend) has lost his job two months ago. He was looking forward to set up a business on his own as no job opportunities seemed to work out. It was a shock for me when he informed me that he needed the premise to set up their business. I promised to vacate the clinic within a month.

Now my hunt for a new place began, but nothing was working out. Fifteen days later, I was going through the classifieds in the newspaper and saw this Ad wherein a new hospital had come up in the suburbs about an hour's drive from my place. They had posted requirements for doctors, technicians, nurses and other staff. They also required a Dentist and I called them and fixed up an appointment. I was called for an interview and completed the same successfully. As I already had all the equipments, I offered to bring in all my equipments and machinery to the hospital and they readily agreed.

Within a week, I shifted all my equipments to the hospital and vacated the premises within the promised time. I opened my clinic at the hospital the very next day. As usual I picked up my dental uniform and reached the hospital but here they gave me a scrub with the hospital logo which I had to wear as part of my contractual obligation. It was heart wrenching to wear the scrub with the hospital logo in place of the scrub with my clinic's name on it.

In a few days I got used to wearing the hospital scrub and started to like it as it was one of the best workwear had to offer. In a few years I had established myself and my friend had also settled down in his business.
