A Comfortable Spot In The Shade

by Debra Smith

We all have lots of "favourite" places, whether it be somewhere to go and eat, to play or just relax underneath a fabric ceiling. We all enjoy resting, however, and here are a few that many people delight in.

Porch Swings

The porch swing seems to exist only movies set in America, yet they seem to be an excellent invention to export. If you live in the country, little could be more pleasant than sitting on your swing outside, watching the world go by. The very definition of relaxing, surely.

Hammocks

Again, the hammock is not hugely common in the UK, however, being able to lie between two trees, suspended a few feet in the air reading a book or just dozing seems to be incredibly relaxing and a lot of fun as well. Homer Simpson, the king of resting, loves his hammock, and if it's good enough for him then it's got to be a good idea.

Shaded Couches

Outdoor pool areas offer a tricky conundrum to those who like to lie around them all day. A few hours in the sun is the longest even the most weather-beaten of us can take, and so there has to be a mixture of sun and shade. Finding a spot in the shade can be tricky, but once done it offers the perfect place to snooze, aware that falling into a deep sleep isn't going to result in serious burns.

Pool Houses

Pool houses are generally the preserve of the wealthy, but what a fantastic facility to have if you can afford them. Not only can you go for a quick dip whenever you like, but you can also sit out and relax near them as well. A couple of sun loungers and maybe a radio are all you to need to have a great time chilling.

Open Concept Living Rooms

Some homes in warmer climates are built with sections of them entirely outside. This allows the inhabitant the chance to take advantage of their glorious weather without having to leave the house! Sometimes there will be an overhead fabric canopy that can rolled back and forth to determine how much shade should be let in, while at other times it can also be used to prevent rain falling on your furniture.

So you see, there are plenty of places that one can use to keep cool from what can, at times, be a fierce sun. What is your favourite?
