Book selling and giveaways

cool promotional items

Books are a type of product that is soon getting to another paradigm shift in the way it merchandised, the way it is envisioned and the way people think about it. The reason why people demand for different ways of seeing these products is the fact that they rarely get to accumulate books in the way they used to. Thus, books as a service is more the way these products are hinted to be in the future.

But, the giveaways that can accompany the selling of a new book can also influence real world sales as well as virtual e-book sales. The best way to envision it is to consider how software sales used to be merchandised. People would be offered prolonged trials or free light versions of books. One thing that these trials allowed was to put the software on the machine of the user, it allowed them to get the product to perform a function or to produce a benefit for the individual thus making sure that the positive aspects of the product were demonstrated.

On the other hand, the book industry has the book shop to rely upon, where books could be looked at and assessed, having the benefit of the short period that allowed one to get an idea of what a book was like. However, the book was allowed for browsing entirely. However, the bookshop itself allowed the individual the framework that copy protection can’t really afford – an entire book to skim through with the social pressure of not reading it entirely in the space itself.

Plus the book sold was a physical item which was in itself a new incentive to purchase it. Now that fewer paper books are sold, the market has got to rely on giveaways as well. Some authors have went as far as offering entire chapters for free or even older catalogue for free when a new book is sold. While this might work for a while, what it does is make the value of the product itself seem smaller.

The future might be uncertain, but, certainly, when it comes to books a good way to incentivize purchasers is to allow access at least to portions of it. If that is not possible, the giveaways have to at least paint a picture of what the book is about, so that the individual doesn’t seem to purchase something of which he knows nothing about.
